St. Philip’s Church in the Highlands, on Route 9D. The St. Philip’s grounds were the site of the first Garrison school building. This photo, kindness of Cathy Lilburne, was taken in 1908.
The second of Garrison’s three school buildings since 1783. This one was built in 1866, on River Road (now Route 9D), across from the current post office building. It was used until 1909.

This site was created in the spring of 2008, as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the stone School House and the 215th anniversary of the founding of the District.
Jean Saunders taught kindergarten at the Garrison School for many years, and loved history. She made this speech in 1968, after her retirement.
